Questions

Things people ask

Men-HOON-hes. Three syllables. The J sounds like an H, the Spanish way. In Spanish, menjunjes means concoctions. A menjunje is the mix someone makes by hand, a little of this, a little of that.

Our blends are built around boldo, black mint, camu camu, guanábana leaf, Butterfly Pea Flower, and Amazonian vanilla, each named in full on the pouch.

The pouch is 200 grams of whole botanicals — 20 to 25 cups, depending on the blend. The Discovery Box ($40) is the way to taste all four before committing to a full pouch.

A leaf needs room to open. Bagged tea is usually broken bits and dust. Quick but bitter, and the aroma's mostly gone before you buy it. Whole loose leaf keeps its oils and unfurls into a rounder, cleaner cup. No bleached paper, no staples, no strings, and no plastic teabag in your cup, since many pyramid sachets are plastic mesh. A French press or mesh infuser is all you need, and both last years.

Gather brews a deep berry red, led by hibiscus, cranberry, and the berries, with butterfly pea flower in the blend. It is the cup you make for company, best cold-brewed and served over ice.

Depends on the blend. Daybreak: naturally occurring caffeine from Cusco green tea, less than a cup of coffee. Dusk: low caffeine from Cusco black tea, well below a straight cup. Caffeine-sensitive? Rooted and Gather are the caffeine-free cups.

Daybreak makes about 20 cups per pouch, brewed at 10 grams; Rooted, Dusk, and Gather make about 25, brewed at 8 grams.

All Menjunjes blends are blended in Peru, in small batches, with Peruvian and globally sourced botanicals. Here is what “Blended in Peru” means on our label.

Our teas are food, not medicine, and we make no health claims. As with any botanical, if you're pregnant, nursing, or taking medication, check with your doctor first. Rooted contains boldo, an Andean after-meal leaf traditionally avoided during pregnancy.
